The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the preparation and assist in the cooking and serving of foods by performing a variety of routine food-prep tasks and service duties for Dining Service Chick-Fil-A operation in the Mountainlair Food Court. Employee may be assigned to one or more of a number of service and production areas as operationally needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Obtains necessary items from storage area for hot and cold food production.  Under the direction of Food Service Lead Workers, assists in the preparation of food items according to food production orders for a restaurant or operation.  Ensures the proper storage of prepared products and unused raw products. Preparation may include:

  • Washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting fruits and vegetables using standard kitchen equipment including but not limited to: slicers, food processing equipment, peelers, knives and garbage disposal.  Cutting and chopping meats to prepare for cooking.
  • Assisting in the preparation of orders as customer demands indicate using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.

Works the counter taking and filling customers’ orders.    Keeps area clean, neat and orderly. Monitors items for correct temperature, taste, appearance. Garnishes items as required. Checks with Food Service Lead Workers to prepare and complete customers’ orders. Labels items as needed for demands indicated by the “peaks and valleys” of the operation.  Informs Food Service Workers when food items are running low.

Assists in training and overseeing student workers assigned to the area.  Provides excellent customer service.

Assists in the pre-production of items to prepare for high customer demand.  

Performs simple duties of putting served items together with ordered condiments. 

Cleans food service area including all standard kitchen equipment, grills, ovens, fryers and utensils. 

Assists with receiving of food items at the dock site and the transporting and storage of these food items.  Places food items in proper storage area and assists with rotation of food items within storage area.  Assists with weekly inventory process to determine amounts of merchandise on hand.  Returns daily all items not used in production to appropriate storage areas.  Assists in issuing items from storage areas to appropriate requisitioning units

Assists with special catering events as requested as operationally needed.  Sets-up dining tables, chairs and related equipment.  Assists with decorations as needed.  Waits and busses tables.  Assists with disassembly and cleaning up after events.

Follows proper sanitation guidelines at all times.  Performs other duties as assigned



  • Requires a Junior High School level of education as might be acquired through 9 years of schooling or equivalent experience.  If applicant has a High School education or G.E.D., length of experience can be 0-6 months.

        6-12 months

  • Skills are typically acquired through on-the-job training 
  • Experience with Quick Service Restaurant food service preferred
  • If applicant has a High School Diploma or G.E.D., length of experience can be 0-6 months

This position requires the following:

  • West Virginia Department of Health Food Handler’s Permit required within 60 days of hire
  • Physical Demands
    • Work requires moderate physical effort involving long periods of standing and walking and lifting of items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
