The Office of Information Technology at West Virginia University is seeking a Director of IT Communications.06. This position will provide system-wide leadership to support, empower, and advance the innovative and evolving use of communication technology to facilitate the implementation of system-wide information technology efforts to faculty, staff, and students as well as external audiences. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, the Director of IT Communications will provide overall leadership and direction for internal and external communications across IT units that directly and indirectly report to the CIO. The Director will design, plan, implement and execute a strategic communication vision coupled to the needs of the Chief Information Officer, Executive IT Leadership Team, and the other distributed campus information technology groups. The Director will develop, manage, and leverage processes, relationships, and interactions between various campus information technology groups to manage crisis situations and improve the visibility of technology projects and services on campus ‎through marketing communications and other outreach activities.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, marketing or related field is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Applicants must have 5 years of experience in the following areas: Practical, on-the-job experience in communications, technical writing, publishing, marketing, and public relations. This experience should include communicating technical information to a non-technical audience; Experience in project management, organizational and leadership skills which may be acquired through practical experience, though not necessarily gained in the computer field; Experience working in electronic communications (including email, social media, and emerging communications methods) which must include communication of technical information to a non-technical audience.

Salary will be competitive for the State of West Virginia Higher Education and commensurate with qualifications.
